"Creativity is the basis of everything in the universe." Anita Govan

Long before stories were written down, they were told in verse. Poetry is at the heart of human communication and has been used  to preserve information for thousands of years. Poetry is now the educational technique of the future.

Creativity is a skill that can be learned.

Anita's creative workshops transform the mind in a fundamental and long-standing way. They are for executives, performers, business owners, management teams - anyone who aspires to be a better leader, more creative in their approach to problems and to communicate better. Do you need to innovate? Do you need to present your ideas or sell your products? Anita won't tell you how to become creative - you'll become creative by creating under her tutelage. Her customised workshops enhance engagement, improve communication skills and strengthen decision-making.

Creativity can be taught.

Writing poetry familiarises participants with the creative ability inherent within us all. Denying the normal use of expressions, compels the writer to utilise other routes within their mind, creating new neurons, new connections between previously unconnected regions of the mind, and perhaps in the light of new research, even new dimensions within the brain. Once created, and then substantiated and reinforced, by practice, memorising, performance and reflection, this new capacity in the brain is then available to be used to process information in a new and better way.

Teaching though poetry embeds creativity

Poetry stimulates different areas of the brain compared to prose. It stimulates the same areas as do music and memory, the same areas which are at the heart of making long-standing memories. University of Exeter researchers released a study which shows that the minds of poetry readers show increased activity in the right-hemisphere, associated with long-term memory. University of Edinburgh researchers also showed recently that using musical cues to learn a physical task significantly develops an important part of the brain. Writing and performing poetry combines these factors to create transformational change within the brain

Complex tasks create complex minds

Sustained creativity requires that the creative structure built is properly founded, grown and reinforced. The creativity engendered by breaking down the creative blocks, to writing poetry, is built upon by the memorising process, by performing, and by the reflections gained under guided analysis. It is by reflection upon the creative process of writing poetry, and the performance given, that the transformation is made permanent.

Lessons learned through poetry last a lifetime.

Creativity embeds knowledge so that it can become practice. We move what we’re learning from our heads to our hearts through our hands. We are born makers, and creativity is the ultimate act of integration — it is how we fold our experiences into our being… The Asaro tribe of Indonesia and Papua New Guinea has a beautiful saying: “Knowledge is only a rumor until it lives in the muscle.”
